Better than Love

Personally, I love how Spyro and Cynder's relationship is portrayed in the show, in a best friend/mentor and student relationship the showrunner Eric Rogers confirmed that we'll see in Academy. Not forced love at first sight most SxC fans want so much.

Was forced romance ever really something that was in play? I love the relationship aspect of it as well but force feeding it into the show wouldn't make much sense since it's not really directed toward that type of storylines. If anything perhaps if they go with a more mature storyline in the future it would make more sense, but for now it's perfectly fine the way it is in terms of a best dragon friend role. I don't think they'll completely ignore the whole relationship thing, but Skylanders was never considered step for step in line with LoS even if the characters were initially based from it. Don't think they'll go that far unless things really mature.

The SpyroXCynder thing became canon in the LOS because the producers and Jared Pullen added it in at the last minute after seeing how much the fans liked the shipping, even though the producers never really intend Spyro and Cynder to fall in love at all.

And Eric Rogers responded that he and his team created a new friendship between Spyro and Cynder, with no previous canon affecting that. They're keeping Academy kid friendly and Spyro and Cynder will just be friends on the show, which they also are in the main Skylanders canon.

Yeah, I know that they never intended to go full romance with the characters, but that they felt the fans wanted to see it happen. Honestly, that didn't bother me one bit, I thought it made things more interesting. I certainly don't mind the way Skylanders is doing things either, since it's geared more toward general audiences. I never expected them to make Spyro and Cynder an item in this series since Skylanders was never really about those kind of stories.

That being said, I wouldn't mind revisiting it again in a more Spyro focused game in the future - who knows what direction they will go. Cynder was the only female dragon in the Spyro series that got any development, so she will most likely be involved someway in a lot of Spyro related projects.

I perfer them to be just friends in the Skylanders Canon.  It feels forced to do it because of Dawn of the Dragon made it a thing, but I was never a fan of shipping in the Skylanders Fandom, well I used to but not anymore (Some Ships can get pretty weird), I perfer Spyro being a dragon who cares for his friends.

Ehh, classic Spyro kinda already has a love interest in Elora. Toys For Bob also seem adamant that Classic Spyro and Skylanders Spyro are separate entities entirely, so I don't know if they'd put Skylanders stuff in Classic Spyro.

Classic Spyro isn't interested in love, unless future games decide to change that.

I fully believe they won't do anything of that sort with Classic Spyro, and honestly, I don't want them too. It's fun to talk about in terms of non-canon and such but Classic is perfectly fine the way it is. In general, I was aiming toward some other future Spyro title that would be its own entity again, a new storyline perhaps like what was done with the Legend series. I think it's a bit unfair to the Spyro character and universe to just leave it in Skylanders and not really having the opportunity to be the focal point of his own series. I hope he gets a new line of games in the future and in said games I wouldn't mind seeing a more mature and adult oriented storyline. Certainly not counting on it though ... lol
