I heard about it from a friend, got Season of Ice one day in 2007 and was into the series ever since.
Might sound a bit conterversial, but Skylanders made me get into Spyro, as a kid I grew up with a Nintendo 64, I never got a Playstation.
Arround 2011, when Skylanders was still fresh on people's minds, I decided to reserch more and get to play a few games in the franchise a bit I played all of the Legend of Spyro games, and Spyro Shadow Legacy on the DS, now today still trying to complete the first Spyro the Dragon game and play the others.

Hmmm tough to remember when exactly I first started playing Spyro, it wasn't long after the first game came out. I believe I had a friend nearby that said if I loved Crash Bandicoot, then I would love Spyro, so at some point my parents picked the game up for me. Needless to say, that's when my love of dragons really took off. I was about 10 or 11 at the time.
I first saw Spyro when I watched my older sister play a demo of one of the games and then she bought Year of the Dragon. I first played Spyro myself when my mum was buying and selling PS1 games on ebay. I helped my mum test the games and she’d let me keep ones I really like with one of those games being Spyro 2. Since then, I’ve always loved Spyro and it’s what got me in 3D platformers.
I first saw Spyro as a young child while I was watching my older brother and dad play one of the Underground Jampack discs on PS1 which had the demo for Spyro 1. A few years later I played the demo of Spyro 1 and a bit later that year my mom would buy me Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage.
Spyro is the coolest dragon of all time! Also, Insomniac Games are the greatest game developers of all time!
I share my story in this video:
